Discocactus is a distinctive genus of globular cacti native to parts of South America, particularly Brazil and Bolivia. Its species are known for their flattened or rounded bodies, pronounced ribs and often dense spines. Mature plants can produce a woolly structure called a cephalium, from which fragrant, usually white flowers emerge at night. Their unusual form and specialised flowering habit make Discocactus a particularly interesting genus for collectors.
