Obregonia is a rare, monotypic cactus genus from the limestone areas of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Often called the artichoke cactus, it forms a solitary, rounded body made up of tightly packed, triangular tubercles that overlap in a distinctive spiral pattern. The plant’s geometric structure gives it a highly sculptural appearance, while mature specimens may produce small white flowers from the centre. Its limited natural distribution, unusual form and slow growth make Obregonia a prized subject among collectors of rare Mexican cacti.
