Rhipsalis is a group of epiphytic cacti native primarily to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America. Unlike many desert cacti, Rhipsalis naturally grows on trees and develops soft, trailing or cascading stems rather than a heavily spined body. Depending on the species, the stems may be thin and thread-like, flattened, angular or segmented. Small flowers can be followed by attractive berries, adding further interest. Its adaptable growth and flowing form make Rhipsalis especially suitable for hanging baskets, shelves and indoor plant displays.
